Reunion Perspective 

The following comments were given by a teacher on the night of a high school reunion. It seems to put into perspective of what reunions have come to represent. I thought it might be of some interest to those of us who may have a reunion coming up in the near future. 

     “Many of you have attended not only high school together, but junior high and sometimes even grammar school.  In your transition from childhood to adolescence, you shared many experiences both painful and triumphant and in many ways left an indelible imprint on each other.

     A reunion is a celebration of life; not just your life, but the lives of all those around you.  It offers you an opportunity to revisit a period of your past that had so much influence in guiding you to become who you are today.  It is an affirmation of your successful transition from youth to maturity and the good news is, you have survived.  Many of these people share that triumph with you tonight.  These are such infrequent yet very important opportunities in your life.  Thank you for letting me share this moment with you tonight.  I encourage you to attend all your school reunions.”

 HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD.  WELL.... YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE.
 
 MY NAME IS ALICE SMITH AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST. I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME.
 
 SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 30-ODD YEARS AGO.
 
 COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?
 
 UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT.
 
 THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE. AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED CARTER RIVERSIDE HIGH SCHOOL.
 
 'YES. YES, I DID. I'M AN EAGLE,' HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.
 
 'WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?' I ASKED.

HE ANSWERED , 'IN 1975. WHY DO YOU ASK?'
 
 'YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!', I EXCLAIMED.
 
 HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.
 
 THEN, THAT UGLY, OLD, BALD, WRINKLED, FAT ASS, GRAY-HAIRED, DECREPIT SON-OF-A-BITCH ASKED,
 
 'WHAT DID YOU TEACH ???'

Class of '51........Get ready

Betty Jean Chestnut Seeders tells us that next year will be the 60th anniversary for the Class of 1951.  She and her cohorts would like to know how many would be interested in having a reunion, plus any suggestions you might have on the kind and place for this event.  (Maybe a 50's theme?)  It would probably be held around homecoming time in 2011.

If anyone would be interested in helping with the planning, let the group know.

Class of '53...... Date Set

Joe Null says that the Class of '53 has been set for a Class reunion on October 2, 2010 at the Ft. Worth Stock Yards.  Dick Richards '53 class reunion chairman has just sent in additional information about the reunion plans.  Click on Invitation '53 to find out what all is happening.  If you don't know where the Diamond Oaks Country Club or the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame are located, then call or email somebody on the Invitation list.  They will be glad to draw you a map.

Class of '55.....Planning Stage (Date Set)

Sue (Shugart) Drautz is planning the 55th Reunion for the class of '55.  It will be on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Fossil Creek Golf Club from 5 to 11 p.m.  We will have a casual get-together on Friday, October 22, 2010 at Flip's Patio Bar and Grill at 6 p.m.  Everyone is invited and our mail-outs will begin in April/May.  We have people calling now.  Contact Sue at gsuedrautz@verizon.net or Gene Alexander at gene@genealexander.com for further information.  Click on Invitation to find out more and who to call.

We are beginning to start planning our 30 yr reunion. Since the Class of '88 missed having a 20 year reunion last year, it has been decided to combine with the classes of 1989 & 1990 for a multi-class reunion!  Check with Stephanie Dowell Largent at Reunion@Largents.net for further information or if you want to help out with the mailing lists, etc.

Class of '97 Forming Up For a Reunion
